Before Your Appointment
Answers to common questions about appointments, privacy, and payment.
What Can I Expect?
Your first appointment will be with one of our mental health clinicians. They will complete an initial clinical assessment to help determine appropriate intervention and treatment for your concerns. They will also provide an idea of how long treatment may last. Please arrive 20 minutes before your appointment so you can complete the appropriate forms before the assessment.
What do I need to bring with me to my appointment?
Please bring your driver’s license or government-issued ID, insurance cards, and a list of all current and past medications.
Is information I provide confidential?
Yes. State and federal laws protect your confidentiality. If you request that information be released to others, you must sign a release of information.
Will My Family Be Involved?
It depends on your age. If you are a minor, we always involve parents. If you are an adult and wish for your family to be part of your treatment, we encourage you to discuss this with your therapist.
Changing Therapist or Psychiatrist
We attempt to match you with the therapist or psychiatrist best suited to help with your concerns. If it is not a good match, you may request a change. We encourage you to discuss this with your therapist or psychiatrist first.
Difference Between Mental Health Professionals
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor with an additional 4–5 years of training in treating mental health and chemical dependency concerns. Psychologists hold a master’s or doctoral degree in psychology and have at least two years of experience; they may be limited licensed psychologists or licensed psychologists. Clinical social workers hold a master’s degree in social work with a mental health focus and have at least two years of experience. We carefully select and credential all of our staff.
Scheduling and Payment
Information to help you plan for your visit.
What happens if I miss my appointment?
If you cannot keep an appointment for any reason, please give us at least 24 hours’ notice so we can schedule another patient. Otherwise, you may be billed for that time because it is allocated for you and insurance does not cover this fee.
How much is my out of pocket cost for an appointment?
If you have insurance, please check with your insurer to confirm your mental health benefits and the amount of your co-pay or deductible. If you provide us with your insurance information, we will attempt to verify benefits and provide an estimate. Estimated co-pays or deductibles are collected at the time of service.
What payment methods you accept?
We accept cash, personal checks, and most credit cards.
Who is ultimately responsible for payment if insurance does not pay?
We verify your benefits, but if your insurance company does not pay as estimated for any reason, you are ultimately responsible for payment.
